India is one of the largest and fastest-growing markets for AI products. It is also one of the hardest to get right. An assistant that performs well on English benchmarks can still confuse, mislead or lose users in India.
If you are launching an AI chatbot, assistant or generator for Indian users — from India or abroad — testing with real people is the quickest way to see what will happen after launch.
What automated evaluation misses
Benchmarks and synthetic test sets are useful, but they rarely capture:
- Code-mixed language. Real users write "mujhe ek leave application chahiye, formal English mein" — and expect a good answer.
- Romanised Hindi. Most people type Hindi in the Latin alphabet, with inconsistent spelling.
- Local context. Prices in rupees, Indian documents (Aadhaar, PAN, ration card), festivals, exams and government schemes.
- Trust. Will a first-time user believe the answer? Do they understand when the AI is unsure?
- Expectations. Users may treat the assistant like a search engine, a person or an official helpline — each needs different handling.
A simple human evaluation plan
- Define your target users — for example, small shop owners in UP, or college students in Tier-2 cities.
- Write real goals, not prompts. "Plan a budget for your sister's wedding shopping" lets users ask in their own words.
- Test with about 10 users per segment and record every session.
- Score each answer for accuracy, usefulness and trust, and note where users got confused.
- Collect failed prompts. These become your most valuable fine-tuning and prompt-engineering examples.
What you get from it
- A list of real prompts that fail, in the words your users actually use
- Clear signs of where users lose trust
- Copy and onboarding fixes — often the cheapest improvements
- Confidence before spending on a big India launch
Working from outside India?
You don't need a local team. Our AI Tool Check recruits real Indian users, runs recorded sessions in Hindi and Hinglish, and sends you an English report with translated transcripts. Prices are available in US dollars on our pricing page. Contact us to plan your test.
